Team discussed the Proposal that was e-mailed to Steve on Wednesday, 14th April 1999. The proposal was about the possibility of taking out the Applet from the Project. Steve agreed. The letter sent out to Steve:
Steve,
We have had a lot of discussion about the project, and decided that, unfortunately, it is not feasible to create an applet as well as an application.
Not only will the applet put extra pressure on us it terms of coding, but it also greatly increases the amount of design and documentation we have to do.
At this stage, the project is looking far too large to be completed by the due date. By removing the applet component, it makes the project look almost completable.
One of the largest problems we are having stems from the fact that we need to work out how each component will communicate with each other, especially concerning the servlet. The applet has quite a different mechanism for doing this than the application and will require an entirely different design. Add to this the fact that both versions have entirely different
GUI's and I'm sure you can see how much of a headache it has been and will continue to be for us. We regret that such drastic action needs to be taken, but we feel that it would be better to complete one program, than have two hovering in an unfinished limbo.
We are including quite extensive documentation that will allow you to pursue the task of creating an applet if you so desire.
We will discuss this in detail in our meeting tomorrow, but we felt that we ought to tell you now as it is one of the many urgent issues we have at the moment concerning our Software Requirements Specifications.
Regards,
K-Team
